Sheila Henderson – Region VIII
is currently the Executive Director of Athletics at Lockhart Independent School District and has been since 2012. Ms. Henderson brings an excellent variety and depth of leadership experience as an athletic director, campus administrator, and teacher/coach as a candidate for Vice President of the Texas Athletic Directors Association.

As a campus administrator, Ms. Henderson served as an assistant principal for Judson ISD where she was served on the administrative team to develop and implement the total school program.

In terms of state-level athletic program leadership, Ms. Henderson served for approximately three years as an Assistant Athletic Director for the University Interscholastic League (UIL), where she directed athletic state tournaments in volleyball, girls’ basketball, softball, and track and field. Her other key duties included working with school officials, coaches, and parents regarding all aspects of athletic rules and eligibility, as well as creating and presenting staff development for school administrators, superintendents, coaches, and others regarding UIL rules.

Ms. Henderson also served as an Assistant Athletic Director in the Austin ISD for almost seven years. In that capacity, she was responsible for providing athletic program leadership, administration, training, direction, and supervision for 11 high schools and 18 middle schools.

As a classroom educator, Ms. Henderson served her first year in education as a teacher/coach at Taylor Middle and Taylor High School in the Taylor ISD. From 1988-2002, she taught mathematics and coached at Bowie High School in the Austin ISD. In 1997 she was honored as Bowie High School’s Teacher of the Year. As the Head Track and Field coach, Ms. Henderson coached many district, regional and state athletes.

At the national level, Ms. Henderson has served on the National Federation of High Schools Strategic Planning Committee (2011) and the National Federation of High Schools Summer Meeting Planning Committee (2009-2011). She has professional affiliations with the Texas Girls Coaches Association, the Texas High School Coaches Association, the National Federation of High Schools, the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, and the National Interscholastic Administration Association.

Ms. Henderson holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University. Areas in which she holds Texas educator certification include Principal (EC-12), Secondary Mathematics 6-12), and Secondary Physical Education (6-12). In addition, she has earned Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS) and Conflict Resolution and Mediation certifications.
